Prenatal Stimulation
In the mid 1990's researchers began to trumpet the benefits of piano-based music study for early childhood. My husband, Michael and I began Early Childhood Music™ in 1998 based on those findings. At that time, most of the music research centered on three-year olds.
Since ECM’s inception, we have developed a very effective piano-based music program for children age three months to seven years. We witness amazing, life-changing abilities in our students: academically, spiritually, physically and musically.
- Pediatricians have documented accelerated developmental, language skills and abilities in our students.
- Most of our first/second grade students, who began music classes as toddlers, are reading at an accelerated pace, most as high as 4th or 5th grade level; surpassing their peers in self-confidence and coordination.
- Most who began music classes under one year of age, read music and can play piano by note by age four and 1/2; all of them by age five and 1/2. These same children read music, transpose and compose music in first grade...and sometimes earlier! Incredible!
Amazingly, we have discovered that this is just the start.
Prenatal research indicates that your baby in utero is an emotionally aware, spiritually aware, physical person with all of his/her senses actively functioning long before birth. It used to be believed that a baby was born either smart or not. Scientists have now discovered that it is the prenatal environment and the activities that he/she participates in from birth until age five, while their brain is forming, that dictates their brain wiring for the rest of their life.
